Tour Palouse Prairie for World Honey Bee Day

  • Palouse Land Trust 121 South Jackson Street Moscow, ID, 83843 United States (map)

The Palouse Prairie is one of the most threatened ecosystems in North America, with less than 1 percent of its historic extent still remaining. What once was a vast sea of native grasses and wildflowers has largely been converted, making the small remaining fragments incredibly important for biodiversity and pollinators in our region.

This event on World Honey Bee Day will take place on one of the largest remaining prairie landscapes in Latah County, a protected preserve that is not normally open to the public. In the Dave Skinner Ecological Preserve, native prairie persists alongside ongoing restoration efforts from Palouse Land Trust, offering a rare opportunity to experience this kind of landscape in a relatively intact form while also seeing the steps taken to restore these prairies.

We are fortunate to be able to share this place with you. Access to landscapes like this is uncommon, and walking it firsthand is a chance to see and appreciate a piece of the Palouse that is usually out of view. To protect this sensitive ecosystem, we will walk single file throughout the visit to minimize disturbance. Please note that ticks are present, so participants should come prepared with appropriate clothing and awareness.

More information to come. Stay tuned!
