As a member of our Conservation Heroes program, you can make your donations via monthly donations from our website, your bank's bill pay system, or payroll deductions. It's safe and easy to do, and it provides a reliable stream of income for important conservation work throughout our region.

Monthly Donations via Bill Pay:
Many banks offer automatic bill pay options for their account holders. Your donation will draft from your account each month on a date you specify. If you have any questions on how to set this up, call Jaime at (208) 596-4496.

Payroll Deductions:
Some employers offer voluntary payroll deductions for their employees. 

• University of Idaho employees can make donations via payroll deductions by making the request through the Human Resources office. Download the form here.

• Washington state and WSU employees can make donations via payroll deductions using the Washington Combined Fund Drive - charity code 1480925.

From Fidelity Charitable: A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is like a charitable investment account for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about. 

When you contribute cash, securities, or other assets to a donor-advised fund at a public charity, like Fidelity Charitable, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth, and you can recommend grants to any eligible IRS-qualified public charity.

Donor-advised funds are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle in the United States because they are one of the easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to give to charity!

If you're age 73 or older, you may qualify to make a "qualified charitable distribution" from your IRA - counting the transfer toward your required minimum distribution while excluding that amount from your taxable income.   

People age 73 and older can transfer up to $105,000 from their IRAs tax-free to charity and count the gift toward their required minimum distribution without having to recognize the amount contributed as part of their gross income.  Donors can take advantage of this opportunity by doing the following:

• Transferring the money directly from their IRA accounts to charitable organizations like the Land Trust.

• Remembering that only traditional, rollover, and Roth IRAs (the latter must have been open for at least five years and meeting other conditions) can be the source of such transfers.

• Making these transfers by December 31 of the given tax year.

Donors who must take required distributions from their IRA accounts may want to consider using the charitable rollover in lieu of some or all of their required distributions. Here’s a helpful article from Fidelity Charitable* explaining the process and benefits of a rollover versus donations of securities or other giving options.

The Palouse Land Trust can accept gifts of appreciated stock - allowing you to save on capital gains taxes while making a meaningful contribution to land conservation. 

To make a gift of stock to the Palouse Land Trust, just follow these procedures:

1.  Contact your stockbroker.  Your stockbroker can make a direct electronic transfer of your stock certificates to the Palouse Land Trust's account with the following information:

4.  Please provide the Land Trust with the name of the security, the number of shares to be donated, and the name and phone number of your stockbroker.

Including Palouse Land Trust in your will is one of the easiest gifts you can make, and one that will share your passion for the landscape for generations to come. It’s an investment in the vision we share for our community and the lands we love. And it’s an incredibly powerful gift that not only honors your connection to the land, but is customizable to your needs and desires, and helps reduce the burden of federal and estate taxes.

Your estate advisor can include simple language in your will that leaves a lasting gift to PLT. Your bequest could be a gift of specific assets, a dollar amount, or a percentage of your estate. You can also name the Land Trust as a beneficiary of your retirement or life insurance policies, which does not require you to change or otherwise update your will or trust.
